DEPTH in a drawing - A4

Checklist-A4-Depth in a drawing

  Depth and volume activity; Atmospheric Perspective  

    Represent a landscape with ojects (trees, houses, animals, people,...)at different distances from the viewer. 

    Checklist

    1.-  Does your image have objects that are close, in the middle, far away, and very far away in the 
          space? (at least four terms of depth) 

    2.-  Are the objects that are closer bigger (larger in size) + lower in the image and the objects that            are further away smaller in size + higher up or at the top

    3.-  Does your image have overlapping objects? (objects that are close are in front
          and objects that are farther away are behind)

    4.-LINES and DETAIL
        a)- Do the objects that are closer have bold, thicker, darker lines and more detail and texture?  

                 * Bold, thicker,darker: press your pencil harder on the paper
        b)- Do the objects that are further away have light, thinner lines and no detail?
     
                 * Light, thinner: press your pencil very lightly on the paper.

    5.-COLOUR

          a)- Do the objects that are closer have bright, saturated colours ? 
              
          b)- Do the objects that are further away have lighter, faded (desaturated) and colder colours ?

                       - Faded: mix two complementary colours
                - Lighter: press your colored pencil very lightly on the paper
                - Colder: Add more light blue to the background

    Painting PROCEDURE 

    - Did you first make a general area of color on your paper  (paint with a lot of water) starting from the background? 

    - Remember that you don’t have to draw the details with the pencil. Only the general lines to place the objects. 

    - You have to work on the details and texture of the close objects when you are finishing your drawing.
